Saat Khoon Maaf Music Review

Saat khoon maaf stars Priyanka chopra as the lead protagonist. The supporting cast include: naseerudin shah, neil nitin mukesh, vivan shah, john abraham, anu kapoor, irrfan khan. The music of this film is composed by the talented Vishal bhardwaj and lyrics have been written by the Legendary Gulzaar saab. With such a talented team at the helm of affairs, expectations are sky high. Will it be able to meet the expectations? Let’s see.

Darling
The first song to arrive in the album is ‘darling’ sung by rekha bhardwaj and usha uthup.
This song has chartbuster written all over it. It is based on the russian folk song to which vishal has added his own magical touch. gulzaar saab has yet again written unconventional lyrics which are exceptional. rekha bhardwaj’s rustic voice adds glamour to the song and rolling of the word ‘darrrrling’ done by usha uthup adds that extra zing. (rating-4.5 out of 5)

Bekaraan
Next come bekaraan which is a soft romantic song sung by vishal bhardwaj himself in his velvet voice. Gulzaar saab comes with a rarely explored word ‘bekaraan’ which means without the shore(bina kinaare). His lyrics are like a poetry. (rating- 4.5 out of 5)

O Mama
The third track is a complete opposite of it’s predecessor as it’s a rock song. Sung brilliantly by K.K , this song shows his range and versatality. Clinton cerejo adds apt backing vocals. There is sufficient use of western instruments. (rating-3.5 out of 5)

Awaara
Sung by Master Saleem , who is a master in singing sufi songs, this song is a philosphical take on the lead protagonist’s state of mind. There is minimal use of instruments as the focus is on the vocals.(rating-4.5 out of 5)

Tere Liye
This track falls in the same category as ‘bekaraan’. Suresh Wadekar who is often associated with vishal bhardwaj comes behind the mike again and sings it flawlessly. The soft texture of his voice is apt for a song of this genre. The lyrics are poetic. The use of indian instrument such as sitar is exceptional. Undoubtedly, the best track of the album. (rating- 5 out of 5)

Dil Dil Hai
Yet another rock song, this time it’s hardcore rock. Sung by suraj jagan, who is quite famous in this genre, this song is for hardcore fans of rock music. (rating-2.5 out of 5)

Yeshu
This is the seventh track in the album and it’s a situational track. This song is more like a prayer and has a haunting tune. It is sung by rekha bhardwaj. This track needs time to grow. (rating 3.5 out of 5)

Doosri Darling
Last but not the least, this is a slower version of the chartbuster song ‘darling’ which is more situational. It starts slow but at the end reaches cresendo. (rating 4 out of 5)

Overall, this album is exceptional in terms of composition and lyrics and is very versatile.

Final Rating- 4.5 out of 5.
